Powder Brows - Mature Skin

During our Powder Brows training last week, our students also studied creating Soft Powder Brows on mature skin. That is part of our Holistic PMU program. Usually, the skin changes quite a lot from the 50s upwards, becoming considerably more fragile, less elastic, thinner, and dry (much due to the hormonal changes during menopause). In the 60s, additional water retention decreases, and fat tissue underneath gets thinner. Does it mean Soft Powder Brows can not be done on mature skin? Absolutely not! As you can see here, with our 67-year-old model, it can work out fabulously.

Here are seven basic tips to remember when doing Powder Brows on mature skin.

  • TIP1: Go for fewer layers! Vascular skin may be thin but absorbs 85-95% of the pigment!

  • TIP2: Use mild brushing technique. Hower the needle over the skin as if brushing off dust from it.

  • TIP3: Use Powdering, not Hairstrokes. Although sometimes we have achieved good results with hairstrokes, it's far safer to opt for the powdering style.

  • TIP4: Choose a lighter color. Select the color you would use for younger skin, then opt for one 1 to 2 tones lighter from it!

  • TIP5: Add Olive modifier to pigment. In most cases, you can opt for green-based pigments. We also add a drop of the olive modifier. See our Holistic PMU Colorimetry for that.

  • TIP6: Multiple situps. Before finalizing the shape, ask the client to sit up multiple times to see how gravity affects the result. Sometimes, our artist even gives finishing touches to the client in a sitting position.

  • TIP7: Opt for retouching in 10 weeks. This longer interval allows the skin to heal completely.

These are just basic tips; consult Holistic PMU platforms for more in-depth knowledge.
